Observation details
Seen at. 33.621662,-117.908208, in fern-y area and on stumps near a tree edged with more ferns. It flew, hopped and ran around the area for about 40 minutes. It whisper sang and called many times. This was a small. chubby wren, dark rusty-brown in general, with the underparts being a richer rusty color. The supercilium was light-buff, less prominent than a BEWR. There was dark barring on the flanks and belly and fine white spotting on the upper coverts. The tail was quite short (shorter than a House Wren), rusty-brown in color, with narrow blackish barring. The bill was relatively short, too. Bad photos, but they show the general impression of the bird!
