Media notes
Relatively clean bird showing exaggerated bulge in inner primaries creating a pinched in look to the secondaries.
Observation details
A large swirling flock of Chaetura that extended from The Chapel to the Lod Cook Hotel, but most were over the large trees next to the South Frat Lot. We spent most of the time on this list trying to sort through these birds and look for Vaux's. Tried to count them many times, but it was hard due to it being a swirling mass of swifts and swallows, so this is a rough count. We did on a few occasions get close to what we thought was a reliable 1x1 count, and most were in the low-mid 30s. Since most of the birds were backlit against the clouds, trying to identify them was challenging, and I'm not at all confident that we got all of them correct. Most of the birds appeared, to me, to show field marks of Chimney, including long heads and tails, fairly broad angular wings especially broad at the secondaries, and flew with deep somewhat rowing wing beats. Those times that the birds would fly in front of the trees, or lower to the ground, most birds had rather dark rumps and throats. Many photos to be added soon.
