Observation details
This bird was circling fairly high overhead with three California Gulls as we were about to leave in the parking lot (~10:20am); all four gulls eventually circled west. An overall gleaming white gull with unmarked primaries, it only had smidgens of light brown on the belly, tail, axillaries/underwing coverts. The bill looked pink-based with the distal third distinctly black. Occasionally as it turned I could see the upperparts which looked plain bright white, and (looking through my scope) sometimes I thought the eye looked pale, suggesting a 2nd-cycle, but this was hard to tell. It only seemed slightly larger than the nearby CAGUs, but still seemed too large-billed, broad-winged and hefty for an Iceland Gull; perhaps a female or a barrovianus? Terrible photos (it was pretty high up) Better photos by Brittany O'Connor: https://www.flickr.com/photos/ba_oconnor/15549790513/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/ba_oconnor/15982243900/in/photostream/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/ba_oconnor/16143772626/in/photostream/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/ba_oconnor/15983782647/in/photostream/
