Observation details
Imm dark eagle with small blondish head projection long tail with white base and broad terminal band strong line of demarcation between dark and light....it blond nape was evident was evident in the bins, once it was closer...and the scope when a bit further out. additional notes: This bird clearly show sign of being a migrant, was first seen at a very long distance to the north soaring in a thermal. I ran back to the truck to grab the scope as it initally looked like a red-tailed hawk but very dark but the proportions indicated it might be a GE. I ha da heck of time refinding it with the scope, as a I am still not accustomed to an angled eyepiece :) It then set its wings and began to glide south toward us, eventually settling in another thermal at much closer range....and just to the south of us. but still a good distance off. At this point I was able to get a few snap shots with the zoom maxed and into the digital zoom.
