NOTES: Series of soft chip notes at 0:11, 1:35, and 2:28 were apparently given by this species, but the loud chip notes at 1:37 are probably Calypte anna instead; the buzzy wing whirr as bird flew off at 2:27 was definitely this species; a female of this species was well seen at this time feeding 5 m away at eye-level at feeder; this bird certainly gave a few soft chips, but it was difficult to separate the softer chips of Calothorax and the harder ones of Calypte; this was one of at least two and possibly three female and one male Calothorax visiting these feeders, which were hanging from a large mesquite in front of lodge amid rural neighborhood in flatlands at mouth of canyon with scattered oaks and tall grass; clear, breezy (10 knots) from SW, upper 70s. Note that cuts #05-RDAT02-02, 03, 04, and 05 were all selected from the same recording, each highlighting a different species. End times were calculated back from voice announcements to determine the approximate time that each archived cut ended. Habitat: Evergreen Forest, Rural, Savannah, Scrub, Edge.
