THIS BIRD WAS, FOR THE DURATION OF THE CONTACT, IN CLOSE FLIGHT WITH NEOPHRON PERCNOPTERUS. EARLY IN THE DAY BOTH AROSE FROM THE TIHAMA, UP THE ESCARPMENT AND THEN INLAND TRAVELLING GENERALLY PERPENDICULAR TO THE GREAT SWEEP OF THE ESCARPMENT RIM. FOR OTHER VULTURE OBSERVSTIONS DURING THIS TRIP, THE PREDOMINANT OBSERVED FLIGHT PATHS WERE PARALLEL TO THE GREAT SWEEP OF THE ESCARPMENT RIM. MY INITIAL CALL WAS GYPS RUEPELLII BASED ON THE (ERRONEOUS) ASSUMPTION TO NOT CONSIDER Torgos tracheliotos BECAUSE OF THE HIGHLY DISTINCTIVE FORM OF SOARING Torgos tracheliotos. TURNS OUT IMMATRES DONT SHARE THIS FORM AND RATHER APPEAR MUCH MORE AS THE FORM OF GENUS GYPS WHILE SOARING . HOWEVER, G. RUEPELLII HAVE DARK TARSI WHEREAS T. tracheliotos HAVE LIGHT TARSI--THIS MAY BE DIAGNOSTIC. HEAVY PROCESSING OF THESE IMAGES BOUGHT FORTH ADDITTION VENTRAL DETAIL OF WHICH ALL--EXCEPT THE NUMBER OF LONGEST PRIMARIES--IS CONSISTENT WITH IMAGES OF Torgos tracheliotos IN EBIRD.
