Observation details
This bird was swimming and diving with the American Coots. The size was larger and the bird seemed to sit lower in the water. The first field marks we noticed was the bright white mark in the auricular area and on the wing. The bird flapped its wings and the white became more noticeable. There was a yellow knot just above the bill. It was not white but yellow and showed a typical bill shape for a White-winged Scoter. When we attempted to photograph the bird it was quite cooperative but unfortunately a little distant. The bird was in the back bay at the Prosser Creek Res Overlook which is just off the paved end of Prosser Creek Dam Rd.
