Observation details
Certainly nine, possibly ten - most likely to be the Rendlesham forest birds from Nov-Dec 2013. Flew over from NW towards line of pines on map, calling loudly - decent sound recording made. Flew beyond pines and lost but later refound in isolated Oak on edge of wood. views here were mediocre although James got better views than I managed. They remained here for just a few minutes then flew west and lost. Call resembled Parrot Crossbill. At least 4 males and one female in oak before flock departed. Sound recording shows the flight calls most closely resemble type N21 in "Crossbill call types in the Western Palearctic", which is indeed, Parrot Crossbill.
