Note from recording log: "2+? humpbacks; Photographs: SNM-3(3-13); Weather: sunny, calm; Sea State and Noise: calm; Recorder: Sony; Hydrophone LC54; Gain: 3.5. 3 tapes. Interval between 1&2 was 6 sec. then stopped recording for a few minutes and attempted to drift towards animal then started 3rd tape." Voice announcements: "Animal, port beam, 200 yards just about the beam, came up, blew twice, deep dive, fluke shot (0:52). Animal just came up and blew, just forward of the starboard beam, 150 yards from the boat (4:47). Animal just came up and blew, just off the starboard bow, maybe ten degrees off the starboard bow, maybe 200-200 yards (10:28). Same animal just blew again-- we think it was the same animal (10:46). Animal blew about 45 degrees off the port bow, about 250 yards (13:37). Surface ratchet (14:59). Blow, port stern quarter, about 3-4 miles out (17:34). Another blow, same place (17:58). Surface ratchet (18:07). Blow, port beam, a quarter mile (28:56). Another blow, about 70 degrees port, a quarter mile. Different animal(29:22). Blow. About two points up aft the beam on the port side, about a half mile out (32:42). Surface ratchet (33:57). Two blows, port beam, half a mile, both animals fluked (35:17). Two animals port beam, half mile. Both blew (41:12). Surface ratchet (45:10). Animal just came up, blew and rolled, just abaft the port beam. Tuning fork (56:17)." Includes 440Hz calibration tone at start; recordist ran out of tape before getting the calibration tone on the end. SEAOCEAN.
