Media notes
It was hard to photograph the Swifts overhead but I managed to get photos of some flying in and out of cracks near the top of the cliff wall.
Observation details
White-throated Swifts flying above and below the top of the cliffs in Box Canyon. Box Canyon is a desert canyon that drains into the Gila River. The canyon walls are about 100 ft. vertical for the first mile up canyon from the river. The swifts were flying in and out of cracks high up on the cliff walls. We estimated there to be about 100. The were darting and calling. We spoke to other birders that thought this was late in the year but all 10 people in our group saw them. We agreed that there were about 75 to 100 individuals.
