Observation details
First sighted yesterday by Paul Friel, and then sighted again this morning by Rich Macintosh and Robin Corcoran. We found the bird on a gravel bar around the Kalsin R. and Olds river estuary. Conspicuous bird, snowy white, with black legs, and pale orange beak. Smaller than a great blue heron, but still larger than a Bald Eagle. Seems that due to neck structure and gape, intermediate is ruled out. After our initial encounter the bird flew over head to a small pool where it successfully fished for about 10 minutes.
