Observation details
*Rare. Found just before this by Mike Gullo and Pat Martin, just after we left. Called in and pointed out to us by that pair as well. Small ammospiza sparrow with yellow-orange throat, flanks, and most of face (save the auricular, which was gray). Light streaks of brown in flanks and even less so across breast. Clear gray nape. White streaked-mantle and gray bill. Mostly flying from deep in grass to another spot deep in grasses, characteristic behavior with characteristic flight. Most field marks and photos gathered from two instances where it perched up. Heard calling as well. Calling interior by streaks and coloration. In the corner of the mowed field where the cattails met the shrubby hedgerow. Lifer!
