Media notes

I was attempting to stay with the bird, who appeared to be changing perches in the canopy of 30-ft oaks. He may have been in emergent pines.

Observation details

Both these recordings are from an extended dawn-singing session lasting at least ten minutes. At the time I didn't know what species was singing, but a TUFL had been very active in this area the afternoon before. A different TUFL sang in a nearby territory using only the bowed "wheeoo" note. This dawn-singing is the most complex I have seen. I have since recorded something similar in Arizona.

Additional species

  • Brown-backed Solitaire Myadestes occidentalis
  • Blue-throated Motmot Aspatha gularis
