Observation details
E Contessa Cir (E of Greenwood) -I assume these are not countable, but I wanted an eBird list for my own records. // Keith did a night mountain bike ride, so the outside light was on for his return. I was watching TV when an odd, chunky quail-type bird tried to walk along the tiny ledge for the window above our front door. What was that? Hmm, no couldn't be …not here. When I looked out the side window, there were five Chukars staring back at me. I am familiar with this species, but finding Chukars at my Mesa AZ front door was a surprise. Quickly, I crept around the side of the house and tried to take photos, but it wasn't until Keith returned at 8:55p.m., shined car headlights towards our entryway, and took over steadying the camera that we got actual photographic proof of our visitors. Likely, someone in the area has been raising Chukars either for release to be hunted, or for training hunting dogs. I think the birds were attracted to the light and the comfort of a building, because they snuggled into the entryway and spent the night. The next morning, they were in our backyard talking, before they trotted across our front yard and headed east down the power tower greenway that runs along the north side of E Contessa Cir.
