NOTES: Blue Spring Transect 3. Battery problems noted at the end of the tape. Notes from cassette recorder: "Eavesdropping on c.8 Tm [Trichechus manatus] c 10m of hyd: B5 10, 37, 26, 47, 49,55 at 0845. Cries of 49 + 55 rejoining after 2m separation. 022- All these are cries of 49 + 55. Calf is trying to nurse on at 090158: Uher tc about 051. Calf voice is very unique. Some of higher cries (about Uher 071 - Following; are not 49 + 55, raspy cries are.) Heads are 8m from hyd. 075- off at one thump (tape on cassette runs out). Sounds may be of 5+53 -> No, are sounds of 5+33, 42, 35, others, leaving and are upset. Tape on Uher was not on. Cries now of upset animals of unknown ID Uher 196ff are 5+53 drifting side by side. At Uher 209 B55 head 4m, at 212 B5 53 head 4m from hyd. These are soft cries. - Sounds abundant at Uher 227 but I'm uncertain of origin. At Uher 257 are 55 + 49 leaving abruptly. Tape recorder slowing in speed. End obs. 1105. Thumps on old H56 line on track 2 as markers. Tone on channels 1&2 at 1130pos, 1 millivolt signal." Notes from recording log describing confusion about equipment setup: "Track 1 is new H-56, coming out of left side of Uher, is going into left ear speaker of hyd, and is the upstream hyd of 2 hyd array. Only thing wrong is that Summers had it downstream, _told me_ it was upstream. SO: Add 1m to sounds from upstream, subtract 1m from downstream. Reverse." See files for additional log of vocs and description of setup confusion. Habitat: River.
