Media notes
Natural vocalizations of a male visiting flowers of a Noni tree (Morinda citrifolia, Rubiaceae). Here, both Sapphire-throated and Sapphire-bellied Hummingbirds were seen visiting the Noni bushes. Noni is an introduced (exotic) bush originally from Asia, planted for its edible fruits and medicinal properties. Fisherman often have Noni near their homes. Hummingbirds defend Noni trees vigorously, becoming very territorial. They often perch on twigs inside the bush foliage, a little above eye-level, vocalizing constantly on a territorial fashion. Also on tape: Pitangus sulphuratus, Columbina squammata, others. Sounds of moving vehicles from nearby highway.
