Long series of calls at approximately 60 Hz begins at 21:10 into recording; a single 60 Hz call is heard 58 seconds in. Frequent overloading of hydrophone heard. 11Aug2003 SAS. Reel notes: "Uher#3, CH-1a system. No traffic. 0905-0929. Rights + Lags. 15 May 1981. Sea 4. Swells, fog. Distant Hump heard. Not a good sig. Loud ambient." Recording log: "Date: 15 May 1981. Time start: 0843-0903; 0905-0929. Cruise: Tioga. Tape#s 3&4. Few voice comments heard on Uher 4400. Species: Lags, Rights, Humps. Sea state and Noise: 3-4, swells, fog. Propulsion & aux. noise: Silent ship. Hydrophone: CH-1a, Ithaca. Filters: 100~, flat, 100~. Gain: 35+4. If humpback: Est. # of songs: yes. Peculiarities: 2 Humpbacks heard. Not good enough for Honeywell. B.G. Notes: Ship's fathometer heard at start of reel to 3/4 in., also hear Lag acutus sounds strong at times (clicks); whistles better too. Long low moans on reel #4 (within 1/4" of reel) maybe Hump parts. Reduction gear whine (tone) heard from working distant trawler. Some receiver overloading. May attempt a honeywell with LP filter for humpback sounds. Voice comments start late; about 1/4 inch into take up." SEAOCEAN.
