Observation details
This juvenile/first winter Black-headed Gull was found in Georgetown Waterfront Park in DC two days ago and seen standing in and low circling flight above the parking lot at Gravelly Point Park after it was relocated by Jeff Shenot earlier today. Distinguished from a Bonaparte’s Gull by, among other things, the extensive dark primaries with only a thin white leading edge on the underwings, larger and less distinct dark “M” pattern on the upperwings, mostly dull orange-red bill and dull orange legs and feet.
