Observation details
Three seemingly large grebes in a group. Light rain, heavy overcast. They never got close enough for good pictures or an absolute ID, even with a spotting scope. I noted light color on the underside of their necks contrasting with the dark head, light color on the flanks/sides, dark top of the somewhat angular head. At one moment the bird I was concentrating on appeared to have a yellow bill. During the thirty or more minutes I observed, they did not dive except once. They were constantly on the move and one bird was obviously larger than the other two. The pictures submitted do not show what I could see with the spotting scope.
