Observation details
First seen walking in the middle of the channel at the end of 6th Street (damp ground here; no running water). The bird flushed up into low hanging vegetation along the creek several times, but returned to creek to forage each time. It was relatively shy and retiring and I was only able to get a couple of photos when partially concealed by vegetation. Good viewing conditions. Plump warbler with cocked tail and large head. Unmistakable head pattern (orange crown patch bordered by black stripes) and a complete bold white eye ring. Thick but defined dark streaking on breast contrasted with bright white undersides. In certain lighting conditions, the back appeared more green-olive, in others, more brown.
