NOTES: 49 songs (1/7/41) and two long calls of BIRD #2 at dawn; this bird began singing at 5:43 am, and switched perches at 5:52 am, after which, I was right up under it, but with a bad angle; there were clearly two birds (both unseen) interacting in some way, with one singing and the other giving long and short calls; the cut ends with long and short calls from one of the two birds, but I could not be certain which one (i.e., the singing bird, or the one that apparently never sang); the singing bird was 25-30 meters away and 25 meters up; my impression was that these birds likely represented a pair; the singing bird began stringing songs together towards the end of the cut; the long call did not appear to be from the singing bird; the cut ends with some really good (quality 1-2) short and long calls, likely from the second bird; the birds moved around a bit, but generally remained about 100 meters north of the road, and about 200 meters short of Estrada do Gave¿, along the road to the Rio Barra Seca [19¡ 04Õ 21" S, 39¡ 53Õ 47" W]; full, dense overcast; intermittent drizzle early on, but rain began soon after this cut was recorded; calm; 78¡ F. ML: Subject changed from recordist's original identification of Xiphorhynchus guttatus guttatus to Xiphorhynchus guttatus [guttatus Group] to conform to eBird Taxonomy (v. 1.55). -Jay McGowan/Matt Medler, July 2015. Other Behaviors: Advertise. Habitat: Rainforest, Evergreen Forest.
