Observation details
Rarity continuing in Pond C from yesterday. Medium sized sandpiper notably larger than Western Sandpipers and slightly smaller than dowitchers and Killdeer. Overall plump bodied in outline with lanky yellow legs and short, straight black bill. Wing and back feathers were gray-brown with pale fringing. The face, nape and breast were a warm buff color. The crown was also buffy but covered with short, fine gray-brown streaks. The eye was black and surrounded by an indistinct white area giving the eye a weakly ringed appearance and lending the face a blank look. The sides of the breast were marked with rows of small tan spots. The belly and undertail were white. Mainly foraged on dry ground and infrequently entered the water. Usually walked with a steady loping gait but when alarmed could run very rapidly. I heard no vocalizations.
