Observation details
Updated 01/05/2019- revisiting this checklist and observation. After some thought and reexamination (plus a suggestion by Joshua M.) we think this is a juvenile Red-shouldered Hawk. We observed this bird for approximately 20 minutes while it remained mostly perched with a squirrel nearby. Richly colored hawk with dark streaks on underbody. A really beautiful bird that we hope to see again. *original comment* - The stripes (on tail too) had us thinking COHA, but back was a pretty rich brown/red.Any ideas or suggestions appreciated! The squirrels seemed annoyed but not threatened by it.
