Family group out foraging with juveniles following parents.
Observation details
Two separate families groups (six birds each) flew into the study area. Matt Young of Cornell identified two groups from the attached audio - Type 10, and Type 2. The birds did not mingle although they were close to each other with one group coming out of a Red pine stand across the road while the other settled into a Jack pine stand within the plot. Birds were all feeding for approximately 15 minutes in the area before each family left at approximately the same time. One headed to the north into Jack pines, and the other headed into mature Red pine stands. Ryan Brady WDNR expressed concern this group might not be from the area. However, I found another Type 10 family group within a couple of miles of this area in June during my BBS route. Having two groups within such a small area gives me confidence these young were locally produced.
