Observation details
Likely a continuing parasitic jaeger first identified on 9/3 by several observers. Spotted flying in a straight line at a good distance away on the far side of pool 1A. All dark large gull-sized bird with light panels in primaries. Observed harassing a tern, then it settled on the water at an extreme distance. Relocated much closer and near a large group of Franklins gulls in the flooded pool 5 near the observation tower. Will post a few low quality photos taken of this dark bird on a rainy day. Tail definitely that of a juvenile jaeger. Bill appears thinner than would be for a pomarine jaeger. Flight was powerful and direct, and size was significantly larger than Franklin’s gulls.
