Observation details
Only 1 male bird confirmed. Seen at various times at the pond at the back of the Cikaniki research station and nearby along the river at the edge of the forest. I waited at the pond at dawn. The male flew in to the pond at c.5.46am and stayed for 8 minutes. After this I only watched along the river at -6.744826, 106.538104 where a log makes a bridge across. I watched from 6.08am to 7 am and saw the kingfisher twice. At 6.15 am a male flew upriver carrying food. At 6.22 am a probably male flew downriver. I again watched for the kingfisher at the same location at the river from 9.50 am until 11.10am. During that time from 2 to 4 other birders (who were twitching the kingfisher in a day trip to Halimun) plus the ranger were present. At 10.05 am the male flew downriver, perched about 1m above the river on a branch over the middle of the river for maybe a minute or two, then flew on downriver. At 10.55am the male flew upriver. At 10.59 am the male flew downriver, perched on a rock for a minute, then flew on downriver.
