Observation details
Ran into birder J. Negreann when I was on the way back from lagoon, and he was on the way to the lagoon. Later in the day he posted photos of a possible CAEG. Earlier when birding the lagoon, I saw the same bird and took a photo because I thought it an odd shaped SNEG (compact, and short necked), and figured SNEG is somewhat uncommon at this location. My intention with the photo was for documentation purposes, just in case SNEG was flagged as rare. Admittedly, my initial thoughts were of SNEG which is what I reported, not CAEG. At the time I was too focused on looking for the previously reported BBSA, and other shorebirds. Update as of 9/4/18: ID of this possible CAEG has been confirmed! Kudos and thank you to J. Negreann for getting better documentation and following up on his suspicions of CAEG! Small, compact egret with short yellow bill that had a black tip, thick neck, all white plumage, short black legs. Much smaller than nearby GREG for size comparison. I didn't see the bird's feet. It was loosely associating with BRPE on the western edge of the main lagoon.
