Media notes
boldly marked wing panel, eyering, generally whitish underparts, and grayish plumage tones when viewed in shade - contra brownish-olive tones in next image. Look close to see wings of insect prey item in open bill.
Observation details
Frequent whit calls alerted me to it initially, audibly differnt from WIFL whit even to my challenged ears. Small empid with boldly contrasting wing panel - blackish covert feathers broadly tipped with buffy-white (indicated HY); big head, short tail body plan; short primary extension; white eyering with just the smallest extension to the rear; bill thickish, short-med length, broadly based and fairly blunt tipped, dark above, bright yellow-orange below w/ small dark tip,. Plumage colors hard for me to describe - see photos, and note white throat, mostly clean white sides and underparts lacking any yellow tones, only light dingyness at shoulders. A very cleanly marked empid. Photos
