Species: Pseudorca crassidens (false killer). Number: 75 +/- 25. est. range: along side boat. Movements: 200¡-250¡. Other species present: none seen. Weather: partly cloudy; 10-15knot winds. Sea state & noise level: 1-2. Recorder: Uher 4200, filters: 100 Hz conditioner, gain: varied throughout recording due to fast level changes. Hydrophone: CH-1. Any photos taken? Many; Tri-x and ectachrome. Other notes: Just 3/4 mi north of Las Tres Marietas, Bahia de Banderas. 1503, porpoise, Pseudorca, 1 mother-calf, lg. herd, about 50-60 maybe more, at least 6 with calves, wed. sized one, lg. ones. Saw 5 little blows [illegible] district up ahead. Took a recording; could hear them clearly thru [sic] hull and in air. 1528 - Moving up ahead of them to record and photograph. Several leaping into air now. Playing; can see blows some of the time. Recorded again. Maybe more with calves. One surfed briefly in wake. Bait; bill fish skimming on surface. Manta jumped. A group of 5 a little bit larger than calves moving together & leaping together (unison). One rolled over, one tail slapped. A lot with distinctive fin shapes and scars. Spread out over a half mile. 75 animals +/- 25." Reel notes: "Time 1510-1520, 1536-1545.
