Observation details
* UPDATE 9.4.18: Sheri L. Williamson reviewed these photos and said "[t]he drab forecrown and width and curvature of the outer primaries (possibly enhanced by the odd angle) are consistent with Black-chinned, and the bill is on the long side for Ruby-throated, so I concur with the ID of Black-chinned." * UPDATE 9.4.18: Additional better-quality photos and a short video of this bird available at https://photos.app.goo.gl/ZM5LL8LmMEUYDR5x9 ----- I’ve submitted these and other photos to Nebraska authorities to get their confirmation or correction, but I feel reasonably confident in my ID. Unfortunately, all of these photos are from a motion-triggered USB camera, so the resolution isn’t the best. And this particular hummer is clever/wary enough to stay away from the feeder when I’m out trying to get a higher-quality photo with my DSLR. But from these photos, I’m seeing a relatively long slightly decurved bill, grayish head, and broad, blunt primaries. A male Black-chinned was confirmed in late July only 20 miles from this location. Continuing at this location from at least 8.25 through 8.29
