Observation details
**updated on 15 Aug 2022 | Will change to WRSA x PUSA based on identification from Ian Davies. His notes, here: "To me your bird looks different from all the other WRSA x DUNL that are out there, and I think the mottling along the upper belly and flanks, as well as mantle pattern, kinked outer bill shape, and head shape and pattern all support WRSA x PUSA, which would be another never-before-seen shorebird hybrid." Original notes: Putative ID | Appeared as breeding plumaged adult WRSA in field; white rump observed and poorly photo'd. Bill is all dark, lacking pink-based mandible of WRSA, and shows a more distinct droop near tip (similar to DUNL) than an WRSA I've seen. Streaking on flanks and undertail also seems more typical of this hybrid combo.
