Media notes
Eventually, flew w/ entire group it was mixed in. Clearly, showed a whitish stripe on upperside of wings.
Observation details
The great majority of phalaropes were Wilson’s, of course. About 10:1. Red-necked Phalropes could generally be singled out by their darker, mottled backs. When one of these spotted, I watched individual until It flexed its wings overhead, or would fly w/ its neighbors - it definitely had whitish, zigzag stripe on upperside of wings... Wiilson’s phalaropes around it did not have such stripe whatsoever. Constantly in motion, hard to keep track of and count. Estimated thereby, conservatively, by extrapolation, to be 30 Red-necked Phalarope among the 300 or so of the two spp.
