Observation details
What appears to be an AHY based on a molt limit visible in the flight feathers. This bird appeared out of nowhere, and started vocalizing in response to Guatemalan Pygmy-Owl playback. We wanted to tease out of the vegetation what we thought was an Ovenbird based on the call, but we never saw the bird giving that call (except Roselvy saw it briefly in flight). Since the interest in Ferruginous Pygmy-Owl playback was waning, we tried playback of another owl, i.e. the Guatemalan Pygmy-Owl. That produced a response from an actual Guatemalan Pygmy-Owl, and we set out to find it.
