Observation details
Initially seen in the opposite (southwest) corner, where it was unidentifiable. It then flew over the northeast corner with a flock of avocets and the black under wing coverts were immediately apparent. It eventually landed in the northeast corner (about 25 meters from me), but soon took flight and I watched it fly off eastward into the desert in the company of a Least Sandpiper. Medium-sized shorebird, with pink-based, slightly upturned bill. Under parts buff, upper parts grayish, with pale fringes on upper wing coverts imparting a scalloped look. Distinct white supercilium. In flight, a band of white consisting of the upper tail coverts and bases of the outer rectrices contrasted with blackish rump and tail, and the black under wing coverts were visible.
