Observation details
Tiny dabbler, green speculum, dark bill, gave vocalizations of adult female GWTE. I noticed a tiny duck doing it's best to keep close to a group of mallards on the lake. Upon closer examination I could see the bird had a dark bill and occasionally exposed green wing patches while swimming. I was fairly certain that I was looking at a Green-winged Teal, but I continued to follow the group in my kayak to get more views. The teal occasionally flew very short distances over the water further revealing those green wing patches. As it became darker out, the bird began calling a hoarse quack which indicated that the bird was female.
