Observation details
This is an estimate based on the birds viewed in the slick. It is a very conservative estimate as it is possible that up to 50 percent of the birds seen offshore of the shelf break today were the nominate type. Most that I photographed had some white, but only a handful had the amount of the individual shown below. All of the Cory's seen nearshore were the Atlantic type (in keeping with what we typically see). These birds are smaller than the Atlantic type Cory's Shearwaters and today, feeding next to Great Shearwaters, their smaller size and delicate shape was very noticeable. We had some awesome views of these birds feeding behind the boat today!
