Immature Cooper's Hawk with one of our "neighborhood" red squirrels.
Observation details
I walked into the dining room and saw a hawk on the ground at base of stone wall steps, the hawk mantling over prey. Got the camera and a couple of photos; got the binocs and could see the hawk had one of our neighborhood red squirrels. Hawk stopped mantling, adjusted grip on prey couple of times, mantled again (I didn't see anything in the area other than gray squirrels). After 15 minutes, it took a bite or two, then flew off to the north with its prey.
