Observation details
2 distinct pairs in an island of cattail. Pairs were about 30 yards apart. Spent a little under 5 hours in a very small area passively watching. One pair was much more vocal than the other. No bird "coughed" they were all "ACK ACK ACK" calls except for a male, presumably on the nest, gave this single (repeated about 15 times) low guttural call and one growl. Pretty cool. This first pair didn't wander far from each other. They gave contact calls pretty frequently. The second pair was far less vocal and seemed very busy. My take on this was that the first pair's breeding was not as far along as the second pair. I did all of my LEBI observations passively. Reclining low in the canoe and having them walk along the cattails right beside me. My goal was to see young but I didn't. I did capture one very artistic photo of a female. The rest of the recordings were all incidental. I recorded a pretty decent "ACK" series.
