Observation details
Adult feeding a juvenile in a nest cavity, The nest/cavity is about 5 ft off the ground in a live pine tree about 12 in in diameter located in the parking area of Backwoods Lodge - MP 133.7 Denali Highway, Cantwell. The nestling was begging loudly while the adult was out searching for food. Several motel guests observed the nestling from just a few feet away, but did not stay long. The photos were shot from about 100 ft away - using a Nikon D100 at 300 mm. The owner of the motel was aware of the nesting birds, and was happy to learn the species.
