Media notes
This bird was first seen staging on the ocotillo to the west of the feeders. He was aggressively guarding that feed for the entire time of my stay. He was in this spot when I first walked into the garden at 7:25am, this was my very fist picture as I walked in, what a great greeting!. After more people arrived, he moved to a tree, he seemed sensitive to the traffic by the feeder. I originally thought I might be on my Allens from the 7th, but as the light got better, I started to realize that this was differnt. I didn't stop to look at my photos until a little later, I didn't want to risk losing him.
Observation details
I was taking photos of this bird and I was not sure what I had. Thanks to Laura for help with ID! He was feeding at the front door area of the entrance building very regularly. He would fly to the mesquite to the south of the patio area and continue to fly in, argue with the other hummingbirds and settle to feed. He was still there as we left at apx.11am. He had a reddish gorget, a dark head, a very notched tail and correct wings and wing set for this species.
