Observation details
Distinguished from Yellow-billed Cuckoo by the lack of rufous in the brown primaries (there was a warm brown color in primaries that Jim commented on and that I could see “in my camera”), the undertail pattern (plain gray with thin white tips to rectrices), thinner and all black bill (excellent views of this), and greenish eye-ring (wasn’t able to make this out in field but the photo shows it!). Another first park record (# 287 NIB on my list) and I believe the park lists is now 314 or 315. This was the 2nd record for Orange County (Jim also found the 1st one) and accepted as the 17th record for California.
