Media notes
A flock of 46 individuals were flying low over a pond giving their traditional flight call.
Observation details
Photographed from the wooden observation platform near the edge of the large pond just to the east of the visitor center building. Heard the flocks distinctive call and watched them fly in from the southeast. They flew directly over the pond and the entire flock seemed as if they were going to land in the pond. However, once they were roughly 10-20 feet above the water, they began to climb again and flew off to the northwest without ever landing in the pond. There were a few dozen other birds scattered among the pond, mostly Canadian geese and mallards with a few canvasback, buffleheads, and ring-necked ducks.
