Observation details
Heard and seen well. Song a slow warble, quite different from higher-pitched, simple, whistled song of Eastern Meadowlark. The bird was teed up on a power pole on the north side of Krause Rd. approximately 175 m east of parking lot. It then flew to the north, landing in the prairie where it sang a few more times, then went quiet. Later, it returned to the same pole and sang again. A plump, short-tailed bird with brown, streaky back and yellow underparts with black “V” on breast (clearly a Meadowlark). Extensive yellow on throat, including the malar area. The upperparts appeared more straw-colored, and lighter overall than an ‘eastern’ Eastern Meadowlark. I will try uploading my poor (but diagnostic) handheld digibinned video. I also obtained a few audio recordings.
