Media notes

NOTES: territorial and aggressive calls in response to human imitation of Cyrtonyx montezumae call from steep grassy slope with junipers and oaks [This recording contains primarily the "Buzz" call of the male described in BNA account, but it begins with what appear to be two series of quavering, metallic whistles, possibly given by a female (0:08-0:19 - this being unlike the clear descending whistles in LNS #20811). There is also a two-parted "whir, whiiirrp" and a soft "whip-whoo, whip-whiirr" that I suspect represents the "ough, ough, ough" call and/or the "quiet, moaning cries" mentioned in BNA. Quality changed from "V Good" to 1-2 - CAM - 29 November 2004] ML: Subject changed by ML archival staff from Cyrtonyx montezumae to Cyrtonyx montezumae [montezumae Group] following eBird/Clements v2016. -Jay McGowan, 3 Aug 2016. Response to playback: Approach. Other Behaviors: Advertise. Habitat: Savannah.
