Observation details

M. More pix later. After looking at more June photos of male TUDU, I think this bird is likely a hybrid/backcross TUDU x scaup sp. Although this bird's back color seems within range for pure TUDU, most June male TUDU pix I looked at from the Old World still have a much longer, wispier crest more closely following the nape outline than this bird, whereas this bird's tuft looks more consistent with photos of putative hybrids from North America.
