Observation details
A carefully counted tally. Birds were tally-clicked in only one direction on all roads/trails traveled. Birds were identified via visual looks (small mostly yellow warblers with dark caps, bold white wing patch, fine streaking on breast with chestnut auriculars), or mostly by voice (a thin high pitched “seet, seet, seet” or “seeta-seeta-seet”). Some sections of peshekee we drove quickly through not allowing for a complete tally of all birds present. A full day of surveying this area would undoubtedly turn up well over a hundred or more CMWA. Huge population explosion due to three years running of spruce budworm outbreak.
