Observation details
On silhouette , a relatively narrow winged , medium sized falcon with a long tail and proportions different on what I expected on large falcons . Despite that , my first thoughts leaned towards a young Lanner with this bird showing minor features of young birds and taking into consideration the falcon species to be present in the region . Saker falcon was ruled out on the spot and on size alone . Reviewing the ebird checklist again late night , and again getting thorough looks at overexposed pictures on computer screen , I did directly think of a possible Eleonora's falcon , but stayed very conservative owing to its vagrancy . The tail length looked to me not matching any of the large falcons and even young birds , but the darkness of the underwing coverts looked quiet not exceptional for lanner that shows dark under coverts on young birds. Contacted next morning by new KORC chairman Neil Tovey , I expressed my thoughts to him on a possible Eleonora's and he did support my doubts advising me to post on our ebird local group . Upon posting and expressing my doubts , the group members notably Omar Al shaheen , Neil Tovey and Mike pope also supported a very possible Eleonora's for the bird . Pekka Fagel also saw an Eleonora's in this bird in a private message . Emailing Mr Dick Forsman on the issue after getting his address from Omar Al Shaheen , he replied confirming Eleonora's on this bird . A first record for Kuwait if accepted by KORC .
