Observation details
Moderately-sized satin black cuckoo with long rounded tail, red iris and horn coloured bill, skulking in fruiting Ficus sp. trees. Buff fringing to some feathers was thought to suggest immature feathers; however, while the bird is an immature bird these are retained juvenile feathers (e.g. the alula, flight feathers, undertail) and the lack of spotting or banding on them, apart from the pale tips, mean that this is an Asian Koel rather than Pacific Koel.
