Observation details
Curious what I observed today. I was trying to get a Southwestern/Desert/Arizona look at the Song Sparrows calling. I did not observe a fallax in the group. The one in the pic below was really dull without any rufous tones. I tried to get the bird in the light for what I actually observed. The shadows gave it a brown look. Overall, 2 of the birds were very plain brown like that of the Montana or merrilli subspecies that winters here. There is a very small Song Sparrow population that extends from the Flamingo exhibit all the way across to the streamy South American bamboo filled exhibit. It is a micro ecosystem in the park that homes some fascinating species both seasons.
