Observation details
Actively feeding in freshwater pond between the E-W runway and the north shore of Casco Cove. Large Godwit with long, straight bill. Distal half of bill dark, proximal orange-brown. Cinnamon cast to head down to breast, with barring on breast and flanks. White belly and undertail covers. Prominent supercilium formed by darker cap and eye-line. Smudgy dark line running down center of breast. Gray upperparts with black-cream bars on select feathers. Black legs. In flight showed black tail, white base, white wing bar on upper wing, bright white wing lining. Asian ssp. melanuroides distinct from European records of islandica which is red below and more extensively so. Very confiding. Silent.
